Fast forward 20 years and I find out that some millennial version of a mad scientist created a mashup of both games with items placed randomly throughout the worlds of each, a discovery that is simultaneously exhilarating and terrifying. Having played through both Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Super Metroid multiple times as a tween, I liked to think I was reasonably familiar with both. Unsurprisingly, my interest in the third topic originates from my fledgling years. Most importantly, for speed running, I’ve been watching a lot of Link to the Super Metroid randomizer.

#SUPER METROID RANDOMIZER SO WINDOWS#
For reading, I’ve been dipping into the *fascinating* world of Windows Powershell. This has led to an uptick in 3 alternative ways to spend time: cooking, reading, and watching video game speedrunners.įor cooking, I recently made enchiladas and a carrot cake. It’s been too long.so long, in fact, that I’m happy to report that I can no longer find anything good to watch on Netflix. I'm lucky that so far, I've been able to make my way through the game, and I don't think I'll get stuck any more going further.Greetings again, my fellow life-having compatriots. I wanted to avoid save states for as long as possible, but some parts I knew would need to be attempted a few times. Holy wow, there were a lot hurdles to overcome. Phantoon didn't fare much better than Kraid, as I was able to dodge his firey tears with the Screw Attack and blast his eye with charge shots.Īfter going through the maze of where the Gravity Suit should be, I simply collected more missiles and power bombs, bringing my total to 125 missiles, 20 super, and 30 power bombs.Īlong with one reserve tank and three energy tanks, I went back to Samus' ship to do a proper save. A re-visit to Spore Spawn with a charged up Plasma Beam one shot the plant and I was able to claim and leave with the Gravity Suit. Making my way to hidden upgrades I managed to also find the Spazer, Charge Beam and Plasma Beams. I had even successfully performed the Mock Ball technique, but this only resulted in two missile expansions and one super. Things really picked up from here, as I was able to return to Brinstar and nab the Wave Beam and exit the pit. I made my way up through Red Brinstar back to the surface, but peeked into the hall to the Wrecked Ship.īombs! They were sitting there, ripe for the taking. With the Power Bombs I made my way to Kraid and (spoilers the Screw Attack can one shot fake Kraid) blew him to bits. The Morph Ball itself was where the Charge Beam was.Īfter running around to anywhere I could, I eventually found the Power Bombs and was able to do some bomb block areas (albeit slowly). I still didn't have the Morph Ball Bombs so I couldn't get out and had to reload a save state. On my path to Spore Spawn, I got Super Missiles, and was rewarded with the Gravity Suit for defeating him. I fell into the space of fake blocks (normally a missile tank, but now the Wave Beam). Once I got to Brinstar, I proceeded to get trapped in a room since I couldn't kill all the enemies (one was behind a bomb block). A good hour of unnecessary wall jumps could have been avoided if I came this way first. Once I made my way through I found my first Energy Tank! With no other route to continue on, I head back to the "proper path" and go to where the first Energy Tank usually is.

On the third attempt, I utilized a save state once I reached the top, which is good because I then died about four more times. Samus was wedged in a two block high space and couldn't stand up. I proceeded to get stuck as I do not have the Morph Ball. I attempted this feat again, this time maybe 20 minutes to wall jump up. I had never encountered the acid without any suit upgrades before so I died in about four seconds. I went back to the surface and next to the ship, proceeded to attempt wall jumps for about 40 minutes until I finally made it up the left side of the wall, using the Screw Attack to break the blocks and let me in.

I knew immediately what I wanted to do with this. In place of the Morph Ball I got the Screw Attack. I'm lucky that I've gotten a seed that, so far, hasn't locked me out of anything. Normally I could have been done with the game at this point, by for now I've only defeated Kraid and Spore Spawn. I've been playing this seed for the past four hours.
